 LAST TIME OUT FOR JMU
The James Madison men's basketball team set a new program record with their 23rd regular-season win with an 83-63 victory over Georgia State on Thursday.
JMU dominated from the start, establishing a 17-0 lead within the first five minutes, and then going on another 17-2 run, building to a 31-point first half lead. They were able to coast with that lead wire-to-wire.
This was the third time this season that the duo both scored at least 20 points. At Michigan State, Edwards had 24 and Bickerstaff had 21. Against Radford, Edwards scored 21 and Bickerstaff added 20.
Edwards poured in a game-high 28 points, making all 12 of his free throws. He now ranks third in the conference for field goals made (116), second for free throw attempts (145), and leads the conference (39th nationally) in free throws made (117). Additionally, he's second in the conference for points per game (17.0), total points, and ranks 75th in the country with 443 points.
In the first half, JMU displayed strong defense, holding Georgia State to 27.6% shooting, and 0-for-10 in its first 10 shots.
The victory marked JMU's third consecutive win against Georgia State and their 23rd win overall this season, surpassing a previous program record set in 1981-82.
WHAT'S AT STAKE
The Dukes and Eagles have only faced each other twice in the history of the matchup, with the all-time series tied 1-1.
JMU soundly won the inaugural meeting of these two teams, 82-71 (Jan. 14, 2023) at the Atlantic Union Bank Center.
The teams played less than a month later, and Georgia Southern won that game 76-73 in Statesboro, Ga. on Feb. 9, 2023.Â
The Dukes are 13-1 at home this season, while the Eagles are 2-13 on the road.
