TROY, Ala. – James Madison softball trailed 2-0 in the seventh, but a two-run home run from Hallie Hall and an RBI single from KK Mathis in the eighth powered the Dukes to a 3-2 win over Troy on Friday evening at the Troy Softball Complex.

JMU improved to 18-10 (2-2 Sun Belt) on three runs and eight hits, while Troy dropped to 22-11 and 2-2 in league play on two runs and four hits.

Hall finished 2-for-4 with the two-run homer, while Mathis and Jasmine Hall collected two hits. Payton List pitched 4.0 innings of relief, picking up four strikeouts while also registering her first collegiate save. Reed Butler extended her on-base streak to 22 consecutive games with a first-inning single and finished 1-for-3 with a walk.

Kirsten Fleet got the start in the circle, completing 2.1 innings before reentering to get the final out in the sixth. Alissa Humphrey picked up the win in 1.1 innings of relief, the 38th of her collegiate career.

How It Happened

J. Hall and Butler singled in the top of the first, but no run came across. Butler's single extended her on-base streak to 22 consecutive games.
Troy loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the second inning, but Fleet picked up a strikeout to end the inning and keep the game knotted at 0-0.
Bella Henzler walked with one out in the top of the fourth, but a flyout and groundout ended the JMU scoring threat.
List struck out a of batters in the bottom of the fourth to keep the home team off the board.
A walk and two stolen bases from Taylor McKinney set up an RBI single from Anslee Finch to give the Trojans a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the sixth.
An RBI single to center field from Kayden Dunn extended Troy's lead to 2-0 in the home sixth.
Mathis singled and H. Hall homered to tie the game at 2-2 in the top of the seventh.
J.Hall doubled to lead off the eighth, and Mathis singled up the middle to give the Dukes a 3-2 lead with two outs.
List got the final two outs of the game to give the Dukes the 3-2 win.

Game Notes

Butler has now reached in 22 straight contests and owns an on-base percentage of .471.
The win improved JMU's all-time record to 3-1 against Troy.
Humphrey made her 93rd career appearance – the eighth-most in JMU history – and picked up her 38th career victory, good for sixth.
The Dukes have won two of the last three games in extras and are now 2-1 in such games this season.
H.Hall extending her hitting streak to nine games - the longest active streak on JMU.
