ATLANTA – James Madison baseball had its series with Georgia State evened as it fell, 7-2, on Friday night at the GSU Baseball Complex in Sun Belt Conference action.
The Dukes had their three-game win streak snapped and dropped to 16-11 (3-5 Sun Belt). The Panthers improved to 14-12 (6-2 Sun Belt).
Junior
Ryan Dooley led JMU at the plate, going 1-for-3 with an RBI. Sophomore
Max Kuhle got the start on the mound, going 4.1 innings with two strikeouts while giving up five runs.
How It Happened
First Inning
Junior
Fenwick Trimble hit a double, moved to third on a passed ball and scored the first run of the game on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Dooley.
Three straight hits from Georgia State gave it a 2-1 lead three batters into the home half of the inning. A single with bases loaded later in the inning increased the lead to 3-1.
Fifth Inning
JMU knocked another run in on a sacrifice fly to bring the game within one. Freshman
Kyle Langley walked, moved to second on a wild pitch, advanced to third on a wide pickoff throw and then scored on
Wyatt Peifer's sacrifice fly.
Two singles were used by the Panthers to push the lead back to three runs and then add another to make the lead 5-2.
Eighth Inning
A two-run homer from Colin Hynek extended GSU's lead to 7-2.
Game Notes
- The Dukes are headed to just their second rubber match of the season.
- Both teams left six runners on base.
