STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia Southern jumped ahead 7-0 after three innings and held on for an 8-3 victory over James Madison softball on Saturday afternoon at Eagle Field.

JMU fell to 29-18 and 11-9 in Sun Belt Conference games on three runs and seven hits, while Georgia Southern improved to 26-20 and 8-12 in league play on eight runs, nine hits, and an error.

Abbie Campbell each hit home runs, while starter
Alissa Humphrey (10-5) was charged with the loss, allowing a season-high five earned runs in 2.1 innings of work. Humphrey also struck out three batters, moving her career total to 496.
Hallie Hall picked up her eighth double of the season and finished 1-for-4 with a run scored.

How It Happened
- Georgia Southern scored first on three consecutive hits to begin the game, taking a 1-0 lead after one inning of play.
- Humphrey struck out two Eagle batters in the bottom of the second to strand a pair of runners.
- Campbell notched the first hit of the game for JMU with a two-out single in the third, but the Dukes were unable to muster any more runs.
- The Eagles brought across six runs on five hits in the bottom of the third inning, chasing Humphrey from the game. List entered in relief but was not able to record an out.
- Rebecca Muh entered the game in the bottom of the third, getting the Dukes out of the inning with a pair of groundouts.
- Hall led off the fourth with her eighth double of the season, followed by List's eighth long ball of the season to cut the deficit to 7-2.
- Bella Henzler and Lexi Rogers also picked up hits in the fourth, but the inning ended on a fielder's choice with the score still at 7-2.
- Campbell trimmed the deficit to 7-3 on her fourth home run of the season to lead off the fifth, but the Dukes did not bring home any more runs. Â
- An RBI groundout from Georgia Southern in the bottom of the fifth pushed the lead back to five runs (8-3).
- JMU was retired without bringing home another run in the sixth and seventh innings.
