HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison field hockey student-athletes will enjoy a new playing surface for the 2024 season as JMU Athletics is in the midst of replacing the turf at its JMU Field Hockey Complex this spring with the project beginning April 29 and scheduled for completion at the end of May.
Â
Carolina Green is the turf general contractor, leading the project to fully remove the previous turf installed in 2014 and install a new surface. The new surface is an international-level, water-based AstroTurf called Poligrass Platinum.
"It's an exciting time for JMU field hockey – so many positive changes and so much commitment from the university, administration, coaches, and players," said Head Coach Christy Morgan. "And now one more great thing that's happening is a new surface in the same location, which is one of the premier locations on our beautiful campus. We are very excited to be blessed with a new turf for 2024. We have such great gratitude for the opportunity to have such a great facility."
JMU field hockey will compete in its first season in the Mid-American Conference in 2024. The new turf will be busy as the Dukes play 12 of their 18 matches at home, including six of the first seven. JMU opens the season on the new turf on August 30 at 4 p.m. versus Villanova.
