JMU's SEASON ROLLS ON AT OLD DOMINION WEDNESDAY
- James Madison will trek to Norfolk, Va., for its first meeting of the season with Old Dominion on Wednesday, Jan. 22. First tip inside Chartway Arena is set for 7 p.m.
- JMU split a pair of home games last week and sits at 10-9 overall and 3-4 in Sun Belt play, while Old Dominion has dropped two straight and enters this matchup at 8-11 and 4-3 in league play.
- The Dukes are still hunting for their first road win (0-6), while ODU is 5-6 inside Chartway Arena this season. The Monarchs dropped a pair of home contests to Georgia Southern and App State last week.
- Dave Riggert will call the game on WSVA 92.1 | 550 AM and the Varsity Network App, with coverage beginning 30 minutes before tip.
- Calling the game on ESPN+ will be Scott Jackson (PxP) and Billy Mann (color).
INSIDE THE MATCHUP
- James Madison and Old Dominion have met 91 times since their first meeting in 1972. While ODU holds a commanding 58-33 lead in the all-time series, JMU has won seven straight games against the Monarchs dating back to Nov. 20, 2019.
- Last season, JMU swept three meetings with ODU, including two wins by a combined 31 points in Norfolk. All-time, the Dukes are 10-35 in road games at ODU but have won four in a row.
- Since JMU joined the Sun Belt in 2022-23, the Dukes are 5-0 against ODU and 3-0 in Norfolk.
ABOUT OLD DOMINION
- Old Dominion currently sits at 8-11 (4-3 SBC), coming off back-to-back home losses last week against App State (62-43) and Georgia Southern (67-63). The Monarchs also own wins over league-leaders South Alabama, taking down the Jaguars 71-63 in overtime on Jan. 11 in Mobile.
- ODU - led by first-year Head Coach Mike Jones - tied for eighth in the Sun Belt preseason coaches poll after finishing the 2023-24 season with a 7-25 record (3-15 SBC).
- The Monarchs have struggled offensively this season, 13th in the Sun Belt in points per game (67.9) and last in field-goal percentage (39.9), three-point field goal pct (28.3), and free-throw pct (65.1).
- Old Dominion concedes 72.4 points per game, 13th in the Sun Belt. However, in seven league games, the Monarchs allow just 68.4 points per contest, sixth in the league.
- Robert Davis Jr. leads ODU in scoring (15.1), while Sean Durugordon averages 14.1 points per game while leading the team in rebounding (7.9 per game).
- In league games, Davis Jr. (17.9) and Durugordon (17.1) rank third and tied for fifth in scoring, respectively. Durugordon also leads the Sun Belt in offensive rebounds (74) and offensive rebounds per game (3.9).

- The James Madison men's basketball team (20-3, 8-3 SBC) completed a three-game sweep of in-state rival Old Dominion (6-16, 2-8 SBC) with a 78-63 win on Feb. 3 at the Atlantic Union Bank Center.
- The win gave JMU 20 wins at the earliest point of a season in program history and the first time the program has recorded 20 wins in back-to-back seasons since there were three straight seasons of 20 wins from 1991-94.
- In his first start at JMU, Raekwon Horton had a career night, recording highs in points (17) and steals (5). He also grabbed 10 rebounds, tying his career high and notching his second double-double, the first at JMU.
- JMU forced 15 turnovers, leading to 21 points. The Dukes also picked up 11 steals, led by Horton's five – which set a career high.

- Myles Tate (20) and Dior Connors (18) combined for 38 points to lead App State past James Madison men's basketball, 58-50, inside the Atlantic Union Bank Center on Saturday afternoon.
- After JMU (10-9, 3-4 SBC) jumped out to a 7-3 lead in the opening minutes, App State (11-7, 5-2 SBC) quickly retook the lead and did not look back, holding the Dukes to 50 points and 18-of-51 (.353) from the field.
- Bryce Lindsay paced the Dukes' offense with 13 points – including 10 in the second half – and added four rebounds. Mark Freeman contributed 10 points and four assists, while AJ Smith led the Dukes with 10 rebounds.
- Tate flirted with a triple-double, finishing with eight points and eight rebounds along with 20 points. Conners also finished with a season-high six made threes, while CJ Huntley added seven points and eight rebounds.
- JMU's 20 first-half points were the lowest-scoring first half since managing 22 at Louisiana on Jan. 4, 2024.
- The Dukes fell to 8-2 at home this season and since joining the Sun Belt in 2022-23, 17-5 in home conference games.
FREEMAN IN RARE AIR
- Redshirt senior guard Mark Freeman became one of nine active Division I players (as of Monday, Jan. 20) with 1,500 career points and 500 career assists after scoring 10 points at App State last Saturday. He currently sits at 1,516 career points and 512 assists.
- In the 2024-25 season, Freeman leads the Dukes in points (12.4) and assists per game (3.5). • He has recorded four or more assists in a game 11 times this season, including seven on two occasions.
- He has also recorded a pair of 30-point games: 30 vs. Southern Miss (Jan. 2) and 31 at Marshall (Jan. 9). He is the first JMU player to have multiple 30-point games in the same season since Stuckey Mosley in 2017-18.
- Freeman's 30-point performance against Southern Miss, which came on only 16 shots, was the third-most by a JMU player since the Atlantic Union Bank Center opened prior to the 2020-21 season behind Vado Morse (32) and Julien Wooden (31).
- Against Arkansas State on Jan. 4, he picked up the 500th assist of his career and as of Sunday, Jan. 19, is one of 24 active Division I Men's Basketball players with 500 assists or more.
- Freeman also sits at 98 career starts in his career at Tennessee State (2019-21), Illinois State (2021-22), Morehead State (2022-24), and JMU (current).
