LEXINGTON, Ky. — James Madison men's soccer battled No. 24 Kentucky through a tight first half before falling, 2–0, on Saturday night at the Wendell & Vickie Bell Soccer Complex in Sun Belt Conference action.
The Dukes (1-7-1, 0-3 Sun Belt) held the Wildcats scoreless through the opening 45 minutes behind a strong defensive effort and three first-half saves from goalkeeper Erik Jaspers. The senior finished with three stops on the night.
Offensively, Manuel Lolas led the Dukes with three shots, including two on goal, while Aidan Melville also registered a shot on target. JMU generated seven of its eight total shots in the second half and earned a pair of corner kicks while pressing for a goal.
Kentucky (6-0-3, 3-0 Sun Belt) broke through in the 54th minute when Isaiah Chisolm converted a pass from Marcus Andersen. Chisolm added a second goal in the 79th minute on a penalty kick to double the lead for the Wildcats.
The Dukes remain on the road when they play Georgia State on Friday, Oct. 10 at 7 p.m.
