Softball Falls to #15 Virginia Tech on the Final Day in Salem

SALEM, Va.- Â The nationally-ranked Hokies used two home runs to defeat James Madison softball by a score of 4-1 in its final contest of the Hokie Invite at the Moyer Sports Complex on Sunday afternoon.

Zoe Yager and Cori McMillian of Virginia Tech (16-4) each had a two-run homer in the first and fourth innings, respectively, as Emma Lemley went the distance for the Hokies.

The senior struck out eight JMU (6-8) batters over seven innings, while allowing four hits and just an unearned run.

Raegan Wall scored the Dukes' only run of the afternoon, coming home on a throwing error by the Hokie right fielder following an Abbie Campbell flyout.

Madalyn Johnson came in the game in relief for Taylor Johnson and turned in a stellar performance. The freshman threw 2.1 scoreless innings, allowing just a single and striking out four. Opponents are batting .226 against Johnson, good enough for a top-10 mark
amongst Sun Belt Conference pitchers.
