Â
How It Happened
First Inning
An unearned run was the first run of the game, as Virginia benefited from a JMU error to get its first base runner. After the bases were loaded, a sacrifice fly brought home a run to make it 1-0.
Â
Second Inning
The Dukes used two errors from the UVA defense to put runners on the corners to set up Fleck to line a single back up the middle to tie the game at one.
Â
Virginia responded with a five-spot, sending eight batters to the plate. The Hoos used a pair of two-run homers as part of the tally to make it 6-1.
Â
Third Inning
JMU took two runs back to make the score 6-3. After an infield single from senior Ryan Dooley, junior Wyatt Peifer doubled him in and moved to third on a throwing error on the play. Freshman Reece Moody then laced a single, scoring Peifer.
Â
A wild pitch allowed Virginia to push the lead to 7-3.
Â
Fourth Inning
With the bases loaded, the Dukes scratched another run on the board to make it 7-4 on a sacrifice fly from Dooley.
Â
Fifth Inning
Three consecutive singles scored a run each time for the Hoos, making the score 10-4.
Â
Sixth Inning
Dooley knocked in his second RBI of the night on a groundout, making it a 10-5 game.
Â
UVA regained its six-run lead, 11-5, on a wild pitch in the home half of the inning.
Â
Seventh Inning
Using a sacrifice fly, Virginia pushed its lead to 12-5 on starting pitcher Chris Arroyo's third RBI of the game.
Â
Eighth Inning
Sophomore Ike Schmidly led off the eighth with a double, moved to third from a flyout and crossed home plate on a wild pitch to make it 12-6.
