NEW ORLEANS – James Madison's
Ashanti Barnes closed out the regular season strong – averaging a double-double of 24.0 points and 15.0 rebounds per game to be named Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week, as announced by the league on Monday morning.
The honor is Barnes' second of the season, and third time in her career. In total, the Dukes picked up four weekly conference nods, with two apiece from
Peyton McDaniel (Nov. 18 & Dec. 2) and Barnes (Dec. 16 & March 2).
The graduate student started the week with a 19-point, 14-rebound performance against Old Dominion last Wednesday, adding three assists, three steals, and a block in the 77-55 victory. The forward then dominated on Senior Day versus Coastal Carolina, posting a career outing of 29 points, 16 rebounds, five assists, and three steals, with zero turnovers on Friday. Barnes is one of seven Division I players this season to record 29 points and 16 rebounds, and the only one to do so with five assists.
JMU finished the regular season on a nine-game winning streak to improve to 23-8 overall with a 14-4 mark in Sun Belt play and clinched the No. 4 seed in the 2026 Visit Pensacola Sun Belt Women's Basketball Championship presented by Air Force Reserve.
