Department Description: The Atlantic Union Bank Center is the Shenandoah Valley's premier experience event venue. Home to JMU Men’s and Women’s basketball, the AUBC not only hosts both programs' home games, but has a full schedule of community and university events throughout the year.
Interns and practicum students have the opportunity to join the exciting environment at the AUBC to learn multiple aspects of athletics including game management, special event management, arena venue operations and more. All majors are welcome to apply and focused interests in Special Event Planning, Arena Facilities Operation and Audio/Video Support can be achieved as you work alongside industry leaders and experienced personnel.

Internships & Practicum opportunities are available in the following time frames:
Fall Semester: August - December
Spring Semester: January - June
Summer: May - August
Hybrid: October - March
(this option will focus on JMU's home basketball seasons)
Available Positions:
General (1-2 available positions)
- Learn multiple aspects throughout the facilities and events world
- Assist with the planning, setup, teardown, debrief of special events
- Take part in the event/game management of basketball games
- Attend operations meetings to prepare for events
- Learn the operations of the arena and its systems
- Learn an overview of the audio and video systems in the arena
Event Management (2-3 available positions)
- Will focus on events more specifically
- Engage multiple aspects of working in an arena environment
- Assist with the planning, setup, teardown, debrief of special events
- Take part in the event management of basketball games focused on attendees/fans
- Work along side RMC Events and support staffing
- Attend operations meetings to prepare for events
- Become an event manager for assigned events and clients
Facilities & Operations (3-4 available positions)
- Will focus on the operations and facility management of the Atlantic Union Bank Arena
- Engage multiple aspects of working in an arena environment
- Assist with the planning, setup, teardown of games and events
- Assist in the operation of the arena
- Attend operations meetings
- Learn the operations of the arena and its systems
- Take a deeper look into portable basketball courts, hydrotherapy tubs, venue operations and more
Audio/Video Support (1-2 available positions)
- Will focus on the technology located at the Atlantic Union Bank Center
- Learn multiple audio and visual systems which are used across the arena
- Assist with the planning, setup, teardown, debrief of special events
- Take part in the execution of events
- Attend operations meetings to prepare for events
- Take a deeper look at digital technology, athletics video production, automated video systems, audio systems including Dante and Q-sys and many more.
