"We are so excited to have someone with the level of coaching and playing experience that Ian has joining our staff," Morgan said. "His strong character helps him coach with passion and purpose, which will help us continue creating the ultimate experience for all our players."

He began playing junior international hockey for South Africa at the age of 15, leading to a gold medal at Japan's Olympic Qualifier and a berth in the 2012 London Olympic games. He won two Africa Cup gold medals (2009, 2011) and the South Africa National Hockey Championship with Western Province three times (2007, 2010, 2013).

Â
"I am thrilled to be moving from England to the US to start a new challenge at James Madison University," Haley stated. "The campus and facilities are first rate and, more importantly, the people are genuine and friendly. The level of play that the group has already achieved over the past three years is impressive, and I look forward to further collaboration with Coach Morgan and Coach Stuart to ensure the team continues to grow."
Â
As a coach, he began as a hockey pro at Wynberg Boys High School in 2006 and as the club coach at Exeter University in 2006-07. Beginning in 2007, he became the coach at Queen's College in Taunton, England until 2012, when he became the director hockey and remained until 2017. He took Queen's College to 10 national schools finals over his final five years with the program.Â
Haley launched the Queen's College Hockey Academy in 2012 following the U12 national boy's team championship and has coached on both the boys and girls sides. He has guided six athletes to playing junior international hockey since 2014.
Â
"So far, I have seen a unique hunger and work ethic that leads me to believe that, with this group, anything is possible," Haley added. "I cannot wait to get started and am looking forward to an exciting journey with a great bunch of student-athletes."
At the junior national level, Haley also competed in squash, cricket, athletics, cross country and baseball in junior and high school.
Haley earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise and Sports Science with honors from University of Exeter in 2005. He received his postgraduate certificate of education in physical education from the University of St. Mark and St. John in 2015.
