Will Hurt joined the James Madison men's golf program as an assistant coach prior to the 2021-22 season, making an immediate impact with the Dukes.
In his first season, Hurt helped guide JMU to the fourth-lowest single-season team scoring average in program history at 288.74 (+1.19), just three shots shy of the program record. Senior Ignacio Montero was also named Second Team All-CAA, giving the Dukes all-conference nods in back-to-back seasons.
Hurt came to JMU after two seasons as a graduate assistant for the men's and women's golf teams at Berry College, where he was named the 2019-20 WGCA D3 Assistant Coach of the Year last season. In addition to helping the programs rack up seven Academic All-American honors, he helped lead the men's team to a No. 12 national ranking and the women's team to No. 3 in all of Division III.
Hurt also has experience as a tournament coordinator and administrator with the Tennessee Golf Association and Tennessee Golf Foundation and also has served as a caddy on the Korn Ferry Tour since 2017. While coaching this past season, Hurt earned an MBA from Berry after completing his undergraduate work at Carson-Newman University in 2019.
