- First true freshman for JMU to qualify for NCAA East First Round since Olivia Viparina (Steeplechase) in 2016, and first Duke to make the regional in the long jump since Ebony Owusu-Sampah in 2015
- Ran a PR of 1:01.95 in the 400-meter hurdles at the Kehoe Twilight Meet (5/1)
- Recorded a career-best long jump of 6.30m (20-8) at the Virginia Challenge (4/17-4/18)
- Placed second in the long jump with a leap of 6.21m (20-4.5) at the Bob Davidson Team Challenge (3/20-3/21)

- Father Melendez played linebacker at Virginia Tech (1989-93), played one season for the Baltimore Stallions in the Canadian Football League
- Melendex is currently a professor and the department chair for the Professional School Counseling program at Norfolk State
- Mother Lynelle Slade-Byrd played volleyball at Virginia Tech (1993-98)
