Brianna Skeens joined the James Madison women’s basketball staff as director of operations in May 2016.
Skeens came to JMU after a one-year stint as an assistant coach at FIU that saw the Panthers earn their first Conference USA tournament victory in two seasons. She coached the FIU guards, oversaw the Panthers’ male practice players and assisted with recruiting visits.
“Bri is a fantastic addition to our staff,” O’Regan said. “She knows and understands all sides of this business thanks to her playing, coaching and administrative experiences. She also has a personality that really fits what JMU represents – she’s hard working, energetic and a great ambassador in the community. I am thrilled to have her onboard with us.”
Prior to her time in Miami, Skeens spent three seasons at Wisconsin, first as a program assistant and then as a graduate assistant as she earned a master’s degree in educational leadership and policy analysis with a focus in athletic administration. During her time with the Badgers, she helped plan recruiting visits, organized travel and game day logistics and coordinated community engagement opportunities for the team.
She also revamped the women’s basketball camps program as Camp Director, seeing an increase in attendance each year she was in charge, and spearheaded the Honorary Coach program, allowing school Deans to get an inside look at the Wisconsin basketball program on game days.
“I am extremely happy to be joining Sean and the JMU women’s basketball program and to be a part of the winning culture he has helped build,” Skeens stated. “Everyone here at JMU has been extremely helpful and welcoming in my transition. I am looking forward to getting back to the administrative side and capitalizing on my organizational strengths, while still being there to support the players in any way I can.”
Skeens graduated from Augustana College (Ill.) in 2012 with a degree in sociology. She was a dual-sport letterwinner for all four years, earning the basketball team’s best defensive player award as a junior and the team’s most valuable player award for volleyball as a senior. During her career, she served as SAAC president and participated in Athletes-Giving-Back. She earned the Merle Chapman Award from the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin in May 2012 for her leadership work with SAAC.
