Melissa Wyant was named Assistant Director of Digital & Social Media at James Madison University in February 2018, taking on management of JMU Athletics Communications digital efforts and coordination of the department’s significant social media presence.
At JMU, she is responsible for large-scale organization of the Athletics Department’s wide-ranging digital presence, including graphic design and overall assistance with JMU Athletics’ visual brand. Wyant also manages the departments’ myriad social media outlets, working closely with staffers in Athletics Communications and across the Athletics Department to promote JMU Athletics.
Wyant originally joined JMU’s staff in August 2017 as Assistant Director of Athletics Communications, where she was responsible for the day-to-day communications efforts of the volleyball, swimming & diving and softball programs. She was the main curator of social media efforts, press releases and media coordination for those programs, while also serving as the secondary media contact for football.
Prior to returning to JMU, Wyant spent the 2016-17 year as the Communications Assistant with the Atlantic 10 Conference in Newport News, Va. While with the A-10, she served as the league’s primary media liaison for men’s soccer, field hockey, swimming & diving, track & field, tennis and softball, promoting the conference’s teams through social media and digital efforts.
Wyant is a 2016 graduate of James Madison, where she worked in the Athletics Communications office beginning in 2015 while earning her Bachelor of Arts degree in Media Arts and Design with a concentration in Converged Media. She also added minors in Sports Communication and Educational Media while at JMU.
