Travis Magorien returned to James Madison as Associate Head Coach & Recruiting Coordinator on Feb. 26, 2026. He previously spent the 2018-20 seasons with the Dukes as an assistant coach.
He comes to the Valley after spending the last two seasons over the mountain at the University of Virginia. Before his time with the Cavaliers, Magorien spent the 2023 season as an assistant coach at West Virginia and two years (2021-22) at Oklahoma.
"Joining the James Madison University family is a profound honor, and I am first and foremost thankful to Jesus for guiding my path to this incredible opportunity,” Magorien said. “This transition wouldn’t be possible without my wife, Brooke; her unwavering support and sacrifice are the foundation of everything I do. I am eager to hit the ground running with Coach Lauren and the JMU Volleyball program as we strive for excellence on and off the court. Finally, I want to share my deep appreciation for Shannon at UVA—your mentorship has been instrumental in my growth, and I’m grateful for the time we spent working together."
“It is with great joy that I get to welcome Travis and his family back to JMU,” Steinbrecher said. “He has one of the best offensive volleyball minds in the industry and a relentless commitment to excellence on and off the court. More importantly, Travis is an expert at building meaningful relationships with our student-athletes, staff and community, which is the heartbeat of our culture. As our Offensive Coordinator and Recruiting Coordinator, he will elevate our gym in every way. Welcome home, Travis, Brooke, Brady, Baker and Tanner - I am so glad you are here!”
