Moran covered the five-mile terrain in 25 minutes and 1.6 seconds, steps behind St. Francis University senior Ryan Sheehan, who broke the tape in 24:58.9. Moran narrowly missed a berth to join teammate Allen Carr (Yorktown, Va./York) in the Nov. 21 NCAA National Championship race, when he placed ninth at the Southeast Regional on Nov. 12.
The Dukes, minus Carr, finished in a tie for ninth in the 20-team field. Duke University won the team title with a low score of 98. Cornell was second with 112 points, followed by Notre Dame (127), William and Mary (150), Duquesne (182), Columbia (220), La Salle (223), Yale (264), JMU (269) and Georgetown (269).
The second JMU harrier to cross was senior Evan Kays (Paris, Texas/Stuarts Draft (Va.)), who was 43rd overall in the field of 174 entries. Kays clocked his mileage in 26:00.8. Senior Nick Noe (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) placed 52nd with a time of 26:04.6, and sophomore Andrew Waring (Vienna, Va./James Madison) was the next JMU entry to complete the course, as he crossed in 26:17.6 for a showing of 68th.
The Dukes final scoring entry was freshman Brandon Dick (Fredericksburg, Va./Massaponax), who ran in 26:53.8 for a 117th-place finish. Freshman Tim Young (Fredericksburg, Va./James Monroe) placed 131st in 27:07.1, and sophomore Bryan Buckland (Centreville, Va./Westfield) was 143rd in 27:21.5. | |||
