HARRISONBURG, Va. (3/27/05) – Junior left-hander Alan Stidfole (New Bloomfield, Pa./Susquenita) and senior right-hander Josh Palm (Conneaut Lake, Pa./Conneaut Lake) combined for a three-hit shutout and junior catcher Aaron Greenfield's (Villanova, Pa./William Penn Charter) homer accounted for the only run as Penn State trimmed James Madison 1-0 in non-conference college baseball Sunday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions won two of three in this weekend's series to improve to 9-7 overall and the even the four-game season series at two games apiece. JMU won the first meeting of the year last month. The Dukes slipped to 7-13 overall.

Stidfole worked 6 1/3 innings and set the tone early by striking out six batters the first time through the order. He registered a career-high 10 strikeouts while allowing two walks and three infield hits. Palm retired eight of the 10 batters he faced, and the only runners he allowed were on walks. PSU did not need its outfielders Sunday, as the Dukes did not hit a ball out of the infield.

Sophomore left-hander Jacob Cook (Mechanicsville, Va./Lee-Davis) was the hard-luck loser for the Dukes, slipping to 0-3. Cook matched Stidlfole into the seventh as both had yielded just two hits at that juncture. He finished by giving up four hits, walking one and fanning five.

Greenfield's second homer of the season came on a 0-1 pitch and cleared the fence in left-center to start the seventh inning. Two more runners would reach in the frame but both would be stranded in scoring position.

Sophomore shortstop Davis Stoneburner (Richmond, Va./Mills Godwin), junior first baseman Matt Bristow (Richmond, Va./Mills Godwin), and junior second baseman Michael Cowgill (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay) tallied the hits for the Dukes.

Sophomore closer Travis Risser (Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra) tossed the final 1 1/3, striking out three without yielding a hit or a walk.

The Dukes complete a nine-game homestand on Tuesday with a 2:30 p.m. outing against in-state rival Liberty from the Big South Conference.
