HARRISONBURG, Va., Oct. 10, 2006 - James Madison University recorded a season-high 12 service aces in defeating Radford University 3-1 in non-conference volleyball action on Tuesday in Sinclair Gymnasium.

JMU (12-6) defeated Radford (6-11) by game scores of 30-20, 24-30, 30-27, and 30-21. The Dukes cruised to victory in game one by hitting .333 as a team while the Highlanders hit .107. However, in game two Radford turned things around and JMU hit -.021 as a team. The Highlanders had eight of their 15 blocks in the second game.

Game three saw more solid play from Radford as the Highlanders vaulted out to a 26-23 advantage. However, a Radford service error gave a sideout to JMU and junior libero Jena Pierson (San Antonio, Texas/James Madison) served the Dukes to a 27-26 lead. Following a Radford timeout, sophomore Melinda Clelland (Richmond, Va./Mills Godwin) notched a kill to tie the score, but senior Bayli Stillwell (Steamboat Springs, Colo./Steamboat Springs) and junior Allyson Halls (Columbus, Ohio/Olentangy) collected back-to-back kills and the Highlanders committed a ball-handling error to cap the JMU comeback.

Game four saw several Dukes step up to help JMU pull away from a 10-10 tie and go on an 8-1 run. The Dukes cruised from there to the 30-21 win. Halls had 11 of her 19 kills in the fourth game while hitting .714 (11-1-14). Sophomore setter Lauren Miles (Tampa, Fla./Tampa Prep) had 17 assists and Pierson tallied 13 digs in the game.

Halls hit .500 for the match (19-4-30) and added two service aces, four digs, and four blocks. Pierson and Miles each had four service aces, the most for any JMU player in 2006. Pierson finished with 28 digs to raise her season average to 6.39 digs per game. She entered the match leading the CAA and ranked seventh nationally with 6.35 digs per game. Miles had 53 assists, three kills, five digs, and two blocks. Senior Hanna Porterfield (Arlington, Va./Bishop O'Connell) had 11 kills while freshman Kaitlin McFaddin (Natural Bridge Station, Va./Rockbridge) also had 11 kills and hit .304. Stillwell narrowly missed a double-double with nine kills, 13 digs, two assists, and three blocks. Senior Amanda Snead (Richmond, Va./Mills Godwin) collected 13 digs.

Sophomore Lindsey Poole (Blountville, Tenn/Tennessee) led the Highlanders with 13 kills, seven digs, and seven blocks. Senior Lindsey Wheeler (Houston, Texas/Clear Lake), the current Big South Player of the Week, hit .316 with 10 kills, five digs, and five blocks. Junior setter Josie Hanners (Richmond, Va./Douglas Freeman) hit .500 with nine kills, 35 assists, seven digs, and two blocks. Clelland finished with five kills and a match-high nine blocks. Senior libero Rachel Newton (Anderson, S.C./T
