ATLANTA, Ga., Oct. 12, 2008 ? Sophomore Kay Weninger (Wescosville, Pa./Emmaus) had a double-double with 16 kills to lead James Madison past Georgia State 3-1 in Colonial Athletic Association women's volleyball on Sunday afternoon.
JMU improved to 9-12 overall and 3-2 in the CAA. GSU dropped to 1-17 overall and 1-4 in the league. The Dukes won by set scores of 25-20, 25-17, 21-25, and 25-22.
Weninger's kill and dig totals were both career highs as she registered the first double-double of her career while hitting .324. Senior Kelsey McNamara (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) narrowly missed a double-double with 14 kills and nine digs with a .367 attack percentage. Freshman Kelly Turner (Ontario, N.Y./Wayne Central) added 12 kills on .478 hitting and three blocks. Senior Lauren Miles (Tampa, Fla./Tampa Prep) had 44 assists along with four kills and four digs. Sophomore Sofia Lindroth (Edwards, Colo./Battle Mountain) had a team-high 13 digs.
Torrie Brown led Georgia State with 15 kills and six digs. Ashley Jones had 14 kills, nine assists, and five digs. Liz Schaab contributed 10 kills, nine digs, two aces, and four blocks. Rachel Boryc tallied 27 assists and 11 digs for a double-double for the Panthers.
JMU will be back at home next weekend t host Delaware at 7 p.m. on Friday followed by Towson at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
