HARRISONBURG, Va., Oct. 18, 2008 ? Seniors Michelle Johnson (Los Gatos, Calif./Los Gatos) and Lauren Miles (Tampa, Fla./Tampa Prep) had 11 kills and 33 assists respectively to lead James Madison to a 3-0 sweep of Towson in a Colonial Athletic Association women's volleyball match on Saturday night in Sinclair Gymnasium.

JMU (10-13, 4-3 CAA) defeated Towson (15-8, 4-3 CAA) by set scores of 25-16, 25-19, and 25-19. It was the first CAA sweep of the season for the Dukes, who have won three of their last four matches.

Johnson hit .526 with just one error on 19 swings. She was particularly clutch in the final set, connecting on six of nine swings with one error. Miles had 33 assists, nine digs, four kills, and two aces for the night. Sophomore Lindsay Callahan (Virginia Beach, Va./Landstown) had 10 kills and six digs while sophomore Sofia Lindroth (Edwards, Colo./Battle Mountain) added 16 digs and two aces.

Towson was led by senior Maddie Haseltine with nine kills and five digs. Sophomore Katee Luecke tallied 23 assists while senior Kristina Shannon added 14 digs.

In set one, Callahan had five kills for the Dukes and freshman Kelly Turner (Ontario, N.Y./Wayne Central) added four as JMU hit a match-best .306 in the opening set compared to .051 for the Tigers. Clutching a 6-5 lead, the Dukes went on a 6-1 run to pull ahead 12-6. Towson got no closer than five as JMU won 25-19.

The second set was tight with Towson leading in the early going before the Dukes turned a 10-7 deficit into a 12-10 lead. JMU still led 18-17 when a four-point run put the Dukes in control for the 25-19 win. A match-best 73% sideout success rate helped the JMU effort.

In the final set, it was Johnson's six-kill contribution that led the Dukes to the win while JMU also had a match-best 20 digs. Senior Ally Perko had five kills for the Tiers. JMU pulled ahead from a 9-8 lead to go up 15-9. Towson managed to close to 16-15, but a 5-1 run put the Dukes back in control with Johnson kills accounting for three of the final six points as JMU won 25-19.
