HARRISONBURG, Va., Nov. 14, 2008 ? Senior Kelsey McNamara (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) led James Madison with 16 kills and 16 digs for a 3-0 victory over Georgia State in Colonial Athletic Association women's volleyball action on Friday night in Sinclair Gymnasium.
JMU snapped a five-match CAA losing streak to improve to 12-18 overall and 5-8 in the conference. The Dukes won by set scores of 25-19, 25-15, and 25-23. GSU fell to 3-24 overall and 2-11 in the CAA.
On senior night, McNamara turned in her best performance of the season with her second double-double on 16 digs and a season-high 16 kills. Her .382 attack percentage was also a season best while she added two assists and two aces. Fellow senior Lauren Miles (Tampa, Fla./Tampa Prep) tallied 34 assists, six digs, and three kills. Sophomore Lindsay Callahan (Virginia Beach, Va./Landstown) added nine kills and nine digs for the Dukes.
Ashley Jones led the Panthers, narrowly missing a triple-double with 10 kills, 15 assists, seven digs, and three blocks.
Neither team could establish control in the early going of set one until a 6-1 JMU run turned an 11-11 tie into a 17-12 Dukes advantage. GSU managed to close it to 20-19 before JMU scored the final five points for the set win, aided by three Panther attack errors. The Dukes used a balanced attack in the first set with four players registering either three or four kills and Miles tallying 13 assists.
JMU grabbed control early in set two with a 7-1 run in set two to open a 9-4 advantage. The Dukes continued to build the lead, reaching margins of 14-7 and 22-12 before trading points for the 25-15 final. JMU hit .444 as a team in the second set.
GSU put together a solid start to set three, pulling out to a 12-7 advantage. The Panthers led 20-16 when the Dukes reversed their fortunes with a 6-0 run with Miles at serve. The run was fueled by three kills from sophomore Kay Weninger
