CHARLOTTE, N.C., Sept. 11, 2009 ? Charlotte hit .321 as a team and used a dominant blocking advantage to turn back James Madison 3-0 in the opener of the Comfort Suites 49er Tournament Friday night at Halton Arena.
Charlotte improved to 3-5 while winning by set scores of 25-17, 25-23, and 25-12. JMU had a three-match winning streak snapped and dropped to 4-4.
“We were really flat tonight,” commented JMU head coach Disa Garner. “We didn't bring a lot of emotion. Charlotte played well and really had a good home environment. We never got into a good rhythm. We played a lot better in the second set with some lineup changes. But in the third set we just couldn't bring it. But we've addressed those things and we'll make adjustments tomorrow morning.”
The 49ers hit better than .300 in each of the three sets to combine for the .321 team average. They also totaled 13.5 blocks over three sets with four players posting at least four while JMU did not register a block in the match.
