HEMPSTEAD, N.Y., Oct. 1, 2010 - Three different Dukes had double-digit kills to lead the James Madison volleyball team to a 3-0 road win over Hofstra in Hempstead, N.Y. Friday evening.
The Dukes won by set scores of 25-22, 26-24 and 25-21 to improve to 12-4 overall and 1-1 in the Colonial Athletic Association. Hostra dropped 6-14 and 0-3 in the CAA.
Redshirt sophomore Natalie Abel (Washington, Pa./Trinity) had a team-high 11 kills while sophomore Danielle Erb (Tampa, Fla./Plant) recorded her eighth double-double of the season with 10 kills and 10 digs. Senior Lindsay Callahan (Virginia Beach, Va./Landstown) chipped in with 10 kills, three assists, three digs and a block. Senior Jessica Zeroual (Ottawa, Ont./De La Salle) had a team-high four blocks while senior Lauren Fanelli (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) and sophomore Megan Wiechmann (Sunland, Calif./Village Christian) combined to finish with 33 assists, 11 digs, two kills and a block.
Marina Markovic had a match-high 13 kills on .303 hitting to lead Hofstra. Nikki Kinner had eight kills and four digs while Kylee Maneja had a team-best 10 digs. Rachel August chipped in 32 assists and six digs.
The Dukes outhit the Pride .263 to .180 but trailed 7.5-4 in blocks. JMU led six to four in service aces and had 44 digs to Hofstra's 39.
The win was the first CAA-victory in first-year head coach Lauren Steinbrecher's career.
Madison returns to the court on Sunday, Oct. 3, in Boston, Mass., as it takes on Northeastern at 1 p.m.
