HARRISONBURG, Va., April 7, 2010 - Radford scored 19 runs on 27 hits as James Madison dropped a doubleheader to the Highlanders at Veterans Memorial Park on Wednesday. RU took game one 10-3 before tripling up the Dukes in game two, 9-3.
Radford ran its winning streak to six games to improve to 22-10. The losses dropped JMU to 16-21.
In game two, right-hander Kellie Snooks gave up three runs on six hits to improve to 6-3. Left-hander Chelsea Kelley pitched 1 1/3 innings of shutout relief to preserve the lead.
Freshman Heather Dindinger (Riner, Va./Auburn) received the loss to fall to 3-8 on the season. She allowed four runs on five hits and two walks while striking out a career-high five. Juniors Heather Widner (Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Ready) and Olivia McPherson (Liberty, N.C./Southern Alamance) combined to give up five runs on nine hits in 1 2/3 innings of relief.
Third baseman Taylor Cunningham led the Highlander offense with three hits, a run and an RBI. Second baseman Nichole Beall added a two-run home run while shortstop Kristen Shifflett, designated player Meredith Moore and first baseman Michelle Beall had two hits apiece.
Junior catcher Katie Spitzer (Broadway, Va./Broadway) led the Dukes with two hits, a home run, a run and three RBIs. Senior first baseman Shannon Moxey (Church Road, Va./Mills Godwin) went 1-for-3 with a double. Freshman center fielder Jasmine Butler (Winter Garden, Fla./West Orange) chipped in with a triple and two runs.
Radford took the lead in the top of the third, scoring three runs on a pair of two-out hits. Cunningham started things off with a one-out single to right field. Pinch runner Morgan Eye stole second and moved to third on a groundout by left fielder Lauren Williams. Shifflett brought Eye in with a single to center. Beall followed with her team-leading 11th homer for a 3-0 lead.
Four straight two-out hits in the fourth by RU extended the lead to 6-0. Moore started the rally with a single to center. She advanced to second on a drive through the left side by Michelle Beall before scoring on a single into shallow center by Cunningham. Williams capped the inning with a two-run triple to right.
