HARRISONBURG, Va., Sept. 17, 2010 - Senior Amy Daniel (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) scored two goals and redshirt sophomore Margo Savage (Virginia Beach, Va./Princess Anne) recorded her third shutout of the season to lift No. 17 James Madison to a 5-0 win over in-state rival Richmond at the JMU Field Hockey Complex on Friday.

The Dukes snapped their four-game losing streak to improve to 3-4 in 2010. The Spiders dropped their third straight to fall to 3-4.

"I'm really happy for (my team), and really proud of them," said head coach Antoinette Lucas. "For them to come out and decide that they don't want to be 2-4 and that they really wanted to win shows that we are better than what we've done in the past as far as the outcome."

Daniel's two goals gave her a Colonial Athletic Association-leading seven this season. The senior also had an assist to give her a conference-leading 18 points. Entering the season, Daniel had five goals and 14 points in her career.

Redshirt freshman Rachel Wein (Perryville,Md./Perryville) and true freshman Ashley Adams (Methuen, Mass./Methuen) each scored their first career goals for Madison while sophomore Auburn Weisensale (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) added her third goal of the season. Weisensale, Daniel, junior Lindsay Cutchins (Suffolk, Va./Lakeland) and senior Randi Segear (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Coughlin) all had assists for the Dukes.

Savage made a career-high 10 saves to record her third shutout of the season. The three clean sheets leads the CAA while the Virginia Beach, Va. native lowered her goals against average to 1.09.

JMU held a 23-16 edge in shots, including a 12-10 advantage in shots on goal. The Dukes also led 7-4 in penalty corners.

Ann Jefferis made seven saves to lead the Spiders. Katelin Peterson had five shots, all of them on goal, to pace the offense. Michelle Weaver and Chelsea Davies chipped in three shots each.
