HARRISONBURG, Va. - James Madison University will open the home portion of its 2011 football season this Saturday and wants to make sure all fans are prepared for the Grand Opening celebration at Bridgeforth Stadium.
All reserved lots are open at 8 a.m. Fans should keep an eye on JMUSports.com for updates should inclement weather affect parking in the field lots prior to a Saturday game, as an announcement will be made by Friday afternoon should a change be made in field parking availability.
With the increased amount of fans in attendance at JMU football games, fans and students are encouraged to arrive early to the campus as well as utilize the shuttle service that begins four hours prior to kickoff and ends one hour following the game. The shuttles will go from many of the local hotels, off-campus residence sites and extended campus sites and drop off at the Godwin Transit Center adjacent to the C and D games for the games.
Gates open at Bridgeforth Stadium 90 minutes before kickoff, with several new gates added to the facility. All fans are asked to enter through the gate marked on their tickets this year, as the addition of almost 10,000 people to the stadium will add to the entry traffic. Students MUST enter through Gate C located adjacent to Godwin Hall and the Transit Center.
The new in-stadium pre-game show will start 60 minutes prior to kickoff. The show will include comments from Head Coach Mickey Matthews, features on current and former JMU football student-athletes, a feature each week on a student-athlete from another JMU sport program and updates from around the Colonial Athletic Association. There is also a feature on the history of JMU football, including interviews with former and current administrators and coaches. The show also includes a new entrance for the Marching Royal Dukes, as the nationally-renowned band continues to put on great performances at pre-game, halftime and post-game. All this leads up to the dramatic entrance of the 2011 Dukes as they get ready to battle each and every opponent this season.
This year, no re-entry is permitted for any patrons of Bridgeforth Stadium. In addition, the stadium is a no-smoking facility, in accordance with University Policy.
After the game, make sure and stay around for the post-game fireworks show in Bridgeforth on Sept. 10 to wrap up the first of five Grand Opening celebrations this year at the renovated stadium.
A limited number of tickets are still available for the opening game on Sept. 10 at 6 p.m., as the Dukes take on Central Connecticut State. To purchase game tickets, contact the ticket office at 540-568-3853 or online at www.JMUSports.com/tickets.
