Penn State Nationals Results
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa., Oct. 18, 2013 – James Madison cross country finished third out of 10 teams in the Penn State Nationals on Friday morning. Overall, 94 runners competed in the women's 6-kilometer race at the PSU Blue/White Golf Course.
JMU tallied 82 points, just four off second-place Lehigh (78 points). West Virginia (28 points) earned the team victory behind four top-six finishes. Colonial Athletic Association foes Towson and Hofstra finished in sixth place (160 points) and 10th place (255 points), respectively, while host-Penn State placed fourth (106 points).
Sophomore Jenna Flickinger (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) had the top finish of the morning for JMU, crossing the line in seventh place (6 points) with a time of 21:51. She earned six points towards the team final total because an athlete running unattached finished ahead of her. Her time was 35 seconds behind the individual winner, Bloomsburg's Victoria Davis.
Three freshmen notched top-22 finishes. Tessa Mundell (Mohnton, Pa./Governor Mifflin) placed 14th (12 points) with a time of 22:11, Meghan Malloy (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield Memorial) finished 19th (17 points) in 22:22 and Lillie Brown (Boiling Springs, Pa./Boiling Springs) came in 22nd place (20 points) with a time of 22:32.
Junior Rachel Hagen (Sterling, Va./Potomac Falls) rounded out JMU's official scored-runs in 31st place (27 points), finishing with a time of 22:46. Fellow junior Tiel Westbrook (Mechanicsville, Va./Lee-Davis) finished just a step behind in 32nd place at 22:46 for the first alternate score of 28 points, and junior Kelsey Langton (Hamilton Square, N.J./Notre Dame H.S.) was the final alternate scored-run in 43rd place (37 points) after spending 23:25 on the course.
