HARRISONBURG, Va., March 20, 2013 -- No. 19 James Madison (5-2) was unable to recover from an early deficit as the Dukes lost 10-3 to ninth-ranked Virginia (5-4) in women's lacrosse Wednesday evening at University Park.

In the Cavaliers' third straight win, Virginia controlled 11 of the game's 15 draws and used a smothering defense to limit JMU to a season-low three goals.

JMU redshirt senior Casey Ancarrow (Jarrettsville, Md./John Carroll) tallied two of the Dukes' goals. Ancarrow, who has a point in 62 of her 63 career games, was the first Duke to score Wednesday, netting a goal 36:08 into the contest after Virginia had built a 5-0 lead.

Virginia, ahead 3-0 at halftime, led by no fewer than four goals (the last time 7-3 at 15:49) during the final 27:23. Sophomore Morgan Stephens (Olney, Md./Good Counsel) led the Cavaliers with three goals, and junior Ashlee Warner (Corning, N.Y./Corning-Painted Post East), sophomore Courtney Swan (Vero Beach, Fla./Vero Beach) and senior Caroline McTiernan (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) each scored twice. Swan and Warner also each contributed three assists.

In the lowest scoring game for the Dukes since a 7-3 loss to Syracuse in the 2010 NCAA quarterfinals, JMU took a season-low 12 shots to 30 for the Cavaliers. JMU's four draw controls was also a season low.

JMU sophomore Steph Finley (Media, Pa./Sacred Heart) led JMU with three ground balls, and Ancarrow and sophomore Ali Curwin (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland) each had two caused turnovers.

Dukes sophomore goalkeeper Schylar Healy (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) made 11 saves as she reached double-digit saves for the third time this season.

Virginia goalie junior goalkeeper Liz Colgan (Cockeysville, Md./Notre Dame Prep) had seven stops.

Next up for the Dukes is a March 23 noon game at top-ranked Maryland.
