Game Plan
- James Madison opens a two-game home stand Wednesday night when it hosts Drexel at the JMU Convocation Center. This game begins a stretch of three home games over the final four regular season games. The Dukes will be seeking its fourth straight series sweep, having already gone 2-0 versus Towson, Delaware and Elon.
- This game can be seen online at MadiZONE HD SportsNet, presented by the JMU Alumni Association. The game can also be heard on the JMU/nTelos Wireless Broadcast Network and on the local airwaves at WSVA AM 550 and 92.1 FM beginning at 6:30 p.m.
- Wednesday's game is sponsored by Union First Bank. The MRDs Color Guard performance group will showcase their Nationals routine at halftime.
Scouting Report
- JMU enters the week 16-11 overall with a 9-5 mark in the CAA (tied 3rd place) while Drexel comes to town sporting a 10-15 record while being 8-6 in the conference (tied 5th place). The Dukes are 9-7 at home this season while the Dragons are 4-5 in true road games this year.
- This is the 26th meeting ever between the programs and Drexel leads the series 18-7, including a 7-4 mark in Harrisonburg. Prior to JMU's hiring of Matt Brady, the Dukes had never beaten the Dragons, but are 7-6 since the 2008-09 season. In the previous meeting on Jan. 15, 2015, JMU held Drexel to a shot-clock record best point total in a 54-35 win in Philadelphia. It was also the third-lowest point total that any JMU team had held an opponent to in history while also holding a team to under 40 points for the first time in 29 years.
- Yohanny Dalembert scored 15 points while Ron Curry and Winston Grays had 12 and 11 respectively. JMU shot 57.9 percent in the second half while limiting Drexel to 24 percent for the game (16 percent in the first half). Trailing 9-0, JMU ended the half on a 17-3 run and held DU without a made field goal for 15:32.
- Last time out for the Dukes, JMU ended its three-game road trip sweep with an 86-75 Valentine's Day win at Elon. JMU shot 60.9 percent for the game and 77.8 percent in the second half, marking the first time in four years that the Dukes shot at least 60 percent as a team. Ron Curry scored 25 points while Yohanny Dalembert contributed 15 points and nine rebounds to improve JMU to 6-2 in CAA road games, matching the program's best road win total in conference games, when it went 6-1 in 1991-92.
- JMU is 6-2 this season when scoring between 60-69 points and 10-1 when holding teams to less than 70 points. JMU is also 12-1 when outrebounded its opponents and 9-2 when tallying more assists. The Dukes are also unbeaten when leading with five minutes to play, boasting a 14-0 record. They are also 15-0 when holding an advantage with two minutes to go.
- JMU is paced by Ron Curry, who scores 13.1 points per game, including the league's fourth-best scoring average of 16.3 per conference contest. He also dishes 4.3 assists, which ranks third in the CAA and has scored in double figures in 19 games this season, including 12 of 14 CAA games. The two-time CAA Player of the Week has six 20-point games and three with at least 25 points.
- Damion Lee leads the Dragons with a CAA-best 20.9 points per game and is among the league's elite in a plethora of categories. He is also second in free throw percentage (.883), tied for second in steals (1.6), sixth in 3-point percentage (.390) and treys made (2.4), seventh in rebounding (6.2) and eighth in field goal percentage (.441).
- The Dukes next host the College of Charleston on Saturday at 7 p.m. in a televised game on the Comcast Family of Networks.
