De'Ana Forbes registered an ECAC-qualifying mark of 14.14 seconds to win the 100-meter hurdles as James Madison opened the 2015 outdoor track and field season on Saturday at the Virginia Cup

In addition to the ECAC mark, Forbes inched just ahead of her personal best, posting the fourth-best performance in school history as part of her event win.

"It was the first meet," noted Head Coach Chereé Hicks. "Everyone got their bearings on their first meet. Now we just need to learn from this first meet and move on. We got our feet wet for the outdoor season."

In the triple jump, sophomore
Nia Jones posted her farthest jump of the year, indoor or outdoor, with a distance of 11.24 meters. Fellow sophomore
Ebony Owusu-Sampah went 11.78 meters in the event.

Senior
Nicole Gilbert cleared 1.59 meters in the high jump, an outdoor personal best height and the ninth-best mark in program history.

JMU will be back in action next weekend, Friday and Saturday, at the Raleigh Relays at North Carolina State.
