Janey Goodman and senior
Meghan Niski notched their first double-doubles of the season to lead James Madison volleyball to a 3-2 (25-21, 25-17, 24-26, 14-25, 15-12) win over Northern Arizona to close out day one of the JMU Invitational 2-0. In the season opener, the Dukes swept St. Francis College 3-0 (25-11, 25-13, 25-18).Â
Against St. Francis, Goodman and freshman
Bryn Recker lead the team in kills with 11 each to help the team's .391 hitting percentage. Recker made her freshman debut with the first kill of the game to put the Dukes on the board. In the first set, the Dukes took control early with a 10-1 run. Goodman finished the match with a team high .688 hitting percentage.
In the second match of the day, JMU faced Northern Arizona after the Lumberjacks defeated Lehigh 3-0. The Dukes took a 2-0 lead early, but long rallies and traded points allowed NAU to tie the match at 2-2 and send it to a decisive fifth set.
After winning the first two sets, the Lumberjacks took control in sets three and four forcing a fifth and final set. The Dukes started with a 7-2 lead in the final set but the Lumberjacks fought to bring it to 9-9. JMU held off Northern Arizona 15-12 to give the Lumberjacks their first loss.Niski and Goodman highlighted the game with double doubles, and senior setter
Sarah Patterson tabbed 50 assists. Goodman and Recker led the team in kills for the second consecutive match, having 17 and 14, respectively. On top of her double-double, Goodman tallied seven blocks while junior

Up NextJMU will face Lehigh Saturday at 1 p.m. to close out the JMU Classic. Lehigh is 1-1 so far dropping a match to Northern Arizona but defeating St.Francis. The Dukes will then turn around and play No.4 Florida at 7 p.m. for the Gators season opener.Â
