HARRISONBURG, Va. - James Madison has signed guard Vince "V.J." Holmes to a National Letter of Intent for the 2016-17 season, as announced by men's basketball head coach
Louis Rowe on Friday afternoon.

"I'm extremely happy to welcome Vince to JMU and to the men's basketball family," Rowe said. "He is a tireless worker who will make an immediate impact for us."

Holmes, who checks in at 6-4, 185 pounds, comes to Harrisonburg after spending a year at Otero Junior College in LaJunta, Colorado, where he started 20 of the 27 games in which he played. Serving primarily as the Rattlers' point guard, Holmes averaged 10.2 points, 6.0 assists and 5.0 rebounds per game.

The Jupiter, Fla. native led Otero to a 27-6 mark in 2016, including a 15-1 record in Region XI play, pacing the conference with 103 assists in league games and lifting the Rattlers to a No. 20 national ranking by season's end. Holmes scored in double digits 14 times this season, including a 13-point, 12-rebound, 10-assist triple-double in an 82-80 win over North Platte on January 15.

"I'm very excited to be part of the JMU family and I'm looking forward to the future in Harrisonburg," Holmes said. "I'm planning on working hard to make sure I'm at the top of my game and my academics. I'm happy to be a Duke!"

Prior to Otero, Holmes played one season at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., where he was selected to the national team. He also played his prep ball at Oxbridge Academy in West Palm Beach, Fla., where he was named First Team All-County after averaging 18.3 points, 6.0 assists and 3.5 rebounds per game as a senior in 2013-14.

Holmes will arrive at JMU with three years of eligibitiliy remaining and will join a Dukes team that loses just one starter from the 2015-16 squad that went 21-11, including an 11-7 mark in conference play.
