DUKES MATCH UP WITH SOUTHERN MISS ON SATURDAY
- Coming off a 73-64 win at Troy on Thursday, James Madison men's basketball is set to complete its two-game road swing with a game against Southern Miss on Saturday, Jan. 31, at 3 p.m. ET (2 p.m. CT) in Hattiesburg, Miss.
- JMU sits at 11-11 and 4-6 in Sun Belt play following its win over Troy on Thursday, while Southern Miss has lost five in a row and sits at 11-12 and 5-6 in league play.
LAST TIME OUT
- Cliff Davis scored 23 points, Eddie Ricks III notched a double-double, and James Madison men's basketball picked up a crucial Sun Belt Conference road victory against Troy, 73-64, on Thursday evening at Trojan Arena.
- JMU (11-11, 4-6 Sun Belt) trailed by nine in the first but used an 8-0 run to surge ahead late in the half and did not trail the rest of the game, handing Troy (15-7, 8-2 SBC) its first loss in six games.
- JMU outrebounded Troy 45-33 and held the Trojans to 36 percent shooting. Davis notched his third 20-point game of the year, hitting his first five threes and finishing with 23 points. Ricks III recorded his third double-double of the season with 10 points and 12 rebounds off the bench, while Christian Brown tallied a career-high 13 rebounds.

- 5: Cliff Davis finished with five threes against Troy - his fifth game making five or more threes in conference play this season. Through Jan. 30, Davis leads the Sun Belt in three-point percentage (.385) and threes made (69) and is shooting 42 percent (37-of-88) from deep in SBC play.
- 38: JMU freshman Christian Brown finished with a block during Thursday's game at Troy, bringing his 2025-26 season total to 38. He is now second on the JMU all-time freshman list for blocks, trailing only Andre Nation (47, 2012-13).

- Mark Freeman poured in 30 points to lead James Madison men's basketball past Southern Miss, 83-72, on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2025 inside the Atlantic Union Bank Center.
- Freeman scored 22 of his 30 points in the second half and finished 9-of-16 from the field for his fourth career 30-point game.
- AJ Smith finished with 13 points – 12 in the second half – and corralled five rebounds. Eddie Ricks III and Elijah Hutchins-Everett collected seven boards and tallied 11 and nine points, respectively. As a team, JMU shot 47.3 percent from the field and tied a season-low eight turnovers.
- Andre Curbelo led Southern Miss (6-8, 1-1 SBC) with 24 points and 10 rebounds, the second double-double of his career. Coble Montgomery (12) and Christian Watson (11) reached double figures for the Golden Eagles.
BROWN BLOSSOMING
- Freshman Christian Brown has emerged as a key rotation piece in his first year at JMU.
- Against Troy on Jan. 29, Brown set career-highs in rebounds (13) and minutes (29). In his past four games, Brown is averaging 8.3 rebounds per contest.
- Brown has been a force around the rim all season - as the 6-foot-8 forward leads JMU and is third in the Sun Belt with 38 blocks (1.7 per game).
- Brown opened his career with a seven-block outing against Akron (11/3), tied for the third most for a JMU player in a single game in program history. It was also tied for the freshman record for blocks in a single game - matching Alvin Brown's seven blocks against Longwood on Feb. 22, 2010.
- Against George Mason on Nov. 29, Brown finished with three blocks - his fourth game with three or more blocks this season.
- Brown also had four blocks against Washington & Lee (11/5) and three against Coppin State (11/9).
- Brown's 38 blocks are the second-most for a JMU freshman since 1974, passing Trevon Flores (37, 2009-10) for second after recording a block against Troy. The JMU freshman record is held by Andre Nation, who had 47 blocks as a freshman in the 2012-13 season.
