HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison scored five of the game's last six goals, including the game winner by junior attacker Margaret Tucker Fogarty in overtime, to power the Dukes past Drexel 9-8 in Colonial Athletic Association women's lacrosse action Friday evening at University Park.
The Dukes improved to 6-7 overall and 2-0 in CAA play while the Dragons fell to 7-4 and 0-1. The win also kept JMU unbeaten all-time against DU, moving the series record to 15-0.
After a scoreless three minutes to start overtime, the teams switched ends and JMU won the draw control to gain possession in the offensive third. Working on the left edge of the cage, junior attacker Cristina McCarthyfound an open Fogarty over the middle, where she buried the game winner with 2:11 to play. The goal capped off three straight for the Dukes and five of six over the final 25:49.
Sophomore midfielder Elena Romesburg tied for a game high with three goals while producing four draw controls, including wins on both during the overtime period. Fogarty tied her career high with two scores while senior attacker Betsy Angel provided one goal and a team-best two assists.
The Dukes held an 18-14 advantage on shots and both teams fired 12 shots on goal. JMU won eight of the final 10 draw controls, spanning the second half and overtime, to edge the Dragons 12-8 in that category. DU led the game in ground balls by a 13-11 margin as the teams combined for 17 caused turnovers.
Redshirt sophomore goalkeeperKaitlin Martindale came off the bench to play the final 24:22, allowing just one goal, making a pair of saves. Freshman Ellie Harmeyer made two stops while allowing seven goals in just under 40 minutes.
Drexel was paced by Devin Nihill, who tied Romesburg for game-high goal honors, with three. Emily Duffey also contributed three points off a goal and two assists.

GETTING OVER THE OT HUMP
JMU played in its third overtime game of the season and was able to get on the winning end of it after dropping its initial two OT contests at Colorado and against No. 9 Penn State.

FOGARTY CLUTCH OFF THE BENCH Margaret Tucker Fogarty provided two big goals for the Dukes in Friday's win as her first came with just over two minutes left in the first half to bring JMU to within a goal at the break. Her latter score would prove to be the biggest of the game as she received the pass from Cristina McCarthy, burying the winner in overtime.
DEFENSE CLAMPS DOWN ON DREXEL
Trailing 7-4, the Dukes' defense once against stepped up to aid in their comeback win. JMU held Drexel to just one goal over the final 25-plus minutes, outscoring the Dragons 5-1 during the stretch. Additionally, JMU won seven of eight draw controls, outshot DU 12-4 and the Dragons committed a trio of turnovers.
