KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – James Madison women's basketball fell 89-60 at No. 13 Tennessee on Wednesday night in the Dukes' first road game of the season.

JMU fell to 1-2 on the season while Tennessee improved to 2-0 as the Lady Vols led the entire way.

Sophomore Lexie Barrierhad a team-best 14 points, joined by redshirt sophomore Kelly Koshuta(13pts) and sophomore Kamiah Smalls (10pts) in double digits.
 HOW WE GOT HERE
Tennessee opened the game on a 13-2 run. A layup by Kelly Koshuta brought the Dukes back within single digits at the 3:36 mark of the first quarter.
Trailing by 16, JMU used a quick 6-1 spurt to pull within 11, forcing Tennessee into a timeout.
The Lady Vols closed the second quarter on an 11-2 run, pushing out to their largest lead (20pts) at halftime.
The Dukes opened the third quarter with a 5-0 spurt courtesy of Lexie Barrier to make it a 15-point contest, the closest they would get.
UT shot 55.0 percent from the floor, including 8-of-15 from 3-point range. Tennessee scored 30 of its points on the fast break.
The Lady Vols made 26 trips to the free-throw line, making 15, while JMU made nine trips, converting five.
 CLEANING THE GLASS
Sophomore Devon Merritt had a career-high 10 rebounds in the contest, the lone player with double-digit boards.
 TAKING SOLE POSSESSION
With a block in the first quarter, redshirt sophomore Kayla Cooper-Williams took over sole possession of 13th on the JMU career blocks chart at 75. She needs 24 more blocks to jump into the top 10.

JMU returns home on Sunday, Nov. 19 for a 2 p.m. contest against Saint Joseph's. The game marks the start of the Food Drive to Benefit the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank. Fans who bring two (2) non-perishable food items to be donated to the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank will be able to purchase a $6.00 general admission ticket to the game.
