HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison dropped a 10-2 decision to Delaware in the finale of a Colonial Athletic Association baseball series at Eagle Field at Veterans Memorial Park on Sunday afternoon.
After taking the first two games of the series, the loss drops the Dukes to 16-6 overall and 2-1 in CAA play. The Blue Hens improved to 12-9 on the season and 1-2 in conference play.
Redshirt senior first baseman Brett Johnsonhit his ninth home run of the season over the left field fence in the fourth inning to cut the Delaware lead to 5-1. Johnson's nine homers this year are a career high. The Dukes scored their second run in the seventh inning on a sacrifice fly from junior designated hitter Jack Hamner.
Delaware left-handed pitcher Kevin Milley (3-0) earned the win, throwing six innings while allowing one earned run and striking out four batters. Burk FitzPatrick earned his first save of the season with three scoreless innings of relief. Junior Josh Silvestri(2-1) took his first loss of the season, going three innings and allowing four runs with four strikeouts.
Delaware had five players record two hits, including Jordan Glover, who went 2-for-5 with two RBIs and a home run. The Blue Hens jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning, sparked by a two-run double by Calvin Scott, who would score on a passed ball later in the frame.

"I think winning the series is the most important thing. Unfortunately, the pitching didn't hold up for us today. It's hard when you give up 14 hits and nine free bases to win baseball games. Give their guy credit, the lefty pitched really well against us and did get a great job of keeping our guys off-balance."
