Kate Owens and junior
Lauren Comegys posted rounds of 1-over 73 on Tuesday afternoon, leading the James Madison women's golf team into a tie for 11th to close the Pinehurst Challenge, hosted by College of Charleston at the par-72, 6,040-yard Pinehurst No. 6 course.
Owens and Comegys combined for five birdies on the day to finish in ties for 10th and 21st, respectively, at the 92-player tournament. Owens racked up 13 pars in a steady round as she picked up her second top-10 finish in just three collegiate tournaments, while Comegys carded her fifth round of 73 or less in just nine attempts.
As a team, the Dukes posted a final-round 300, climbing three spots on the 17-team leaderboard to finish in a tie for 11th with Towson, just one stroke outside the top 10.
Junior
Morgan Cox continued her strong bounceback, posting a 4-over 76 in her final round to climb into 84th, while senior
Katie Turk (t-56) and freshman
Carly Lyvers (t-76) closed out the JMU scoring with rounds of 78 (+6) and 81 (+9), respectively.

"We put together another solid number today to wrap things up here. I'm proud of the fact that we could have folded after a disappointing first round, but kept battling to post better team scores later on. We need to start better moving forward, but we're looking forward to getting back and getting to work."

The Dukes will take a week off before heading to Rehobeth Beach Country Club on Oct. 20-21 to take part in the Blue Hen Invitational, hosted by Colonial Athletic Association foe Delaware.
