COLLEGE PARK, Md. – James Madison could not slow down Maryland's hot bats, as the Terrapins handed the Dukes a 6-1 loss in non-conference baseball action at Bob "Turtle" Smith Stadium on Wednesday evening.

The Terps (17-23) jumped out to an early 2-0 lead and kept the Dukes (21-20) off the scoreboard until the final frame. Â

Zach Tondi led the way for the Dukes at the plate with a 2-for-4 performance, his ninth two-hit game of the season, along with a run scored. Senior
Ryan Coale went a perfect 1-for-1 in his pinch-hit at bat.

On the mound freshman
Michael Bechtold received the loss to move to 1-1 on the year. Bechtold tossed three innings, giving up two runs on four hits with two strikeouts.

Maryland scored two runs in the first off a RBI-triple down the right field line and a RBI-single up the middle. In the fourth, the Terps launched a solo shot to increase their lead to 3-0. Two home runs in the seventh inning accounted for the Terrapins final three runs.

JMU's sole run came off a passed ball that scored Tondi in the ninth inning.

The Dukes have the weekend off and will return to action on Friday, May 4 at 6 p.m. when they begin a three-game Colonial Athletic Association series against UNCW at Eagle Field.
