KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. - Senior
Lauren Comegys carded the lowest round of her collegiate career on Tuesday afternoon, helping power James Madison women's golf to a ninth-place finish at the Kiawah Island Classic, hosted by College of Charleston at the historic Kiawah Island Resort.
Comegys, who has carded a pair of 70s in her JMU career, wrapped her week with a bogey-free 69 (-3) that marked the sixth-lowest round in the 264-player field on Tuesday and was tied for the sixth-lowest round to-par in program history.
The performance, which saw Comegys charge down the stretch with all three of her birdies in her final nine holes, launched her up the leaderboard 43 spots and into a tie for 19th at 219 (+3) after three days among the massive field.
As a team, the Dukes continued their strong play among the top flight on Kiawah Island's par-72, 5,964-yard Osprey Point course, carding a final-round 293 (+5) to climb two more spots on the leaderboard and take home ninth among the event's 53 teams.

QUOTING COACH BAKER
"This was a good weekend for us. We didn't quite finish as cleanly as we wanted to, but to finish inside the top 10 among a strong field is something we can build on. Obviously, there are things we can tidy up and we're looking forward to getting back to work as we keep preparing for the conference championships."
