WILMINGTON, N.C. – James Madison volleyball split the weekend series at UNCW with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-8, 25-21) victory on Sunday.
JMU improved to 13-5 overall and 7-3 in Colonial Athletic Association play, while UNCW dropped to 3-18 on the season and 2-8 in league play.

Miëtte Veldman led the Dukes with 13 kills on a .440 hitting percentage, while junior
Sophia Davis killed off 12 points on a .550 hitting percentage. Davis hit for a total of 34 kills on the weekend and a total percentage of .582.
Savannah Marshall led JMU with 15 digs (5.0/set) for the match.

The Dukes have not lost consecutive games this season, and are 5-0 in matches following a loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set
The Dukes led 12-6 following a 4-0 run, but the Seahawks responded to cut the lead to 18-17. JMU went on a 7-0 run to close out the opening set 25-17, with the final point killed off by redshirt sophomore
Julia de Sa.
Second Set
JMU quickly built up a 12-1 lead, and cruised to a 25-8 victory and a 2-0 match lead. Veldman had seven kills in James Madison's final 12 points. The Dukes have given up eight points or less in the second set in three of their last four matches.
Third Set
The two teams started off the set even at 10, tying the set nine times in the process. From there, JMU went on a 4-0 run to take a 14-10 lead, and eventually extended the lead to 21-13. UNCW won eight of 11 points to close to within 24-21, but
Caroline Dozier finished the match with a kill, as the Dukes won the set 25-21.

UP NEXT
James Madison will return to Godwin Hall on Oct. 30 and 31 to face Northeastern, who knocked the Dukes out of the CAA tournament last season. Saturday's match will begin at 11 a.m. ET and will be streamed on FloSports, while Sunday's match will begin at 1 p.m.
