LYNCHBURG, Va. — James Madison women's basketball dropped an overtime heartbreaker to Liberty, 66-61, Thursday night at Liberty Arena. The Dukes fall to 1-2 on the year while the Lady Flames remain undefeated at 3-0.

Liberty outscored JMU 14-4 in the first quarter, forcing the Dukes to spend the remainder of the game clawing their way back.

The Lady Flames saw two players record double doubles with Mya Berkman collecting 18 points and 13 rebounds and Bridgette Rettstatt adding 11 points and 10 boards.

Kiki Jefferson led all scorers with 21 points and led the Dukes in the rebounding column with eight.
How It Happened
- The Dukes scored just four points in the first quarter as they shot 13.3% (2-15) from the floor. JMU went 0-for-7 from long range in the opening frame.
- Liberty started the game on a 6-0 run and finished the first quarter shooting 42.9% (6-14).
- JMU went on to outscore the Lady Flames in the second, third and fourth quarters, but their first-quarter deficit proved to be too much for the Dukes to come back from.

- Liberty held JMU to just four points in the first 10 minutes of action.
- The Dukes went 2-for-15 from the floor in the opening quarter while Liberty registered a field goal percentage of 42.9 (6-for-14).
Second Quarter: Liberty 21, JMU 17
- The Dukes won the second quarter 13-7, but still trailed by four as they headed into the locker room.
- JMU went on an 11-2 run that brought the Dukes within two points, but Liberty answered with a layup to extend their lead by four.

Third Quarter: Liberty 35, JMU 34
- JMU outscored the Lady Flames once again, 17-14.
- Ouderkirk brought the Dukes within one point at the end of the quarter when she knocked down back-to-back treys.
- The Dukes had their best-shooting quarter, recording a field goal percentage of 42.8.
Fourth Quarter: JMU 49, Liberty 49
- For the third-straight quarter the Dukes outscored Liberty, 15-14.
- JMU took their first lead of the game at the 9:46 mark when Hazell knocked down a jumper at the foul line.
- Liberty's Rettstatt responded with back-to-back buckets to put the Lady Flames back on top by three.
- An Ouderkirk jumper followed by a pair of free throws from
Claire Neff brought the Dukes within three with just 50 seconds to go.

Madison Green then tied it with nine seconds left after she knocked down a second-chance three.
- Liberty committed an offensive foul with 4.5 seconds on the clock, but JMU was unable to break the tie score in the final seconds.

Overtime: Liberty 66, JMU 61
- Liberty went up by two quickly after knocking down a pair of foul shots.

Jaylin Carodine then hit one of her two free throws to cut the Lady Flames' lead to one.
- Neff knocked down her first triple of the game to put the Dukes up 53-51.
- The Lady Flames then went on a 13-3 run that put them up by eight points with seven seconds left in the extra minutes.
- Hazell knocked down her first trey of the game in the final seconds, but time expired and the Dukes dropped their second-straight game. Â
