HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison volleyball dropped a 3-1 (16-25, 25-22, 15-25, 20-25) decision to Towson on Sunday, splitting the weekend series.
JMU fell to 16-6 overall while Towson improved to 22-4, and the two sides remained tied for first place in the league standings after the split, each at 10-4.
Sophomore
Miëtte Veldman again led the Dukes with 15 kills for the match, while junior
Sophia Davis added 11. Junior
Caroline Dozier secured her seventh double-double of the season with 40 assists and 10 digs.
Seniors
Rebecca Frye and
Savannah Marshall were recognized after the match for their careers with James Madison.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set
Towson raced out to an early 11-4 lead, and responded to a 3-0 JMU run with a 5-0 run of its own, extending the lead to 16-7. From there, the two sides traded points, and the Tigers cruised to a 25-16 victory.
Second Set
The Dukes erased seven different deficits in the set, trailing by as many as four. Down 15-11, JMU took five of six to tie the score at 16. After Towson regained a two-point advantage at 20-18, JMU won seven of nine to win the set 25-22. Kills by Davis and Veldman wrapped up the set and evened the match at one.
Third Set
Set three started out tightly contested, as the two teams were deadlocked at 11. From there, the Tigers took command, winning 14 of 18 points, and not allowing JMU to score consecutive points the rest of the way. Towson took a 2-1 lead with a 25-15 triumph.

Fourth Set
James Madison took two separate three-point leads; first at 8-5, and again at 15-12. However, another late-set surge carried the Tigers to victory, as Towson won 13 of the set's final 18 points, including five of the last six.
