Wilmington, N.C. – James Madison volleyball (3-1, 2-0) defeated UNCW (0-4, 0-2) 3-1 on Saturday afternoon to capture the its first conference series sweep of the 2020-21 season.

Two Dukes recorded a double-double,
Miëtte Veldman recorded her second of the season with 15 kills and 10 digs while
Caroline Dozier tabbed hers with 51 assists and 12 digs. Dozier also set a new career-high in assists.

On the offensive end, four JMU players record double digit kills.
Chloe Wilmoth lead JMU with 17 kill at a .300 clip, followed by Veldman's 15 with a .324 percentage.
Elizabeth Helmich and
Sophia Davis each record 12 kills respectively.

On the defensive end JMU recorded 14 blocks, led by
Savanah Cockrill with four.
Savannah Marshall had numerous crucial digs for the Dukes and finished the match with 25 and one service ace.

UNCW took an early lead going on a 4-0 run, leading  JMU 8-4. Helmich helped the Dukes fight back with a kill and a block, with the help of
Skyla Richardson, to get JMU within three (11-8). Helmich delivered another kill later in the match to put the score at 20-16. UNCW capitalized on early errors by JMU to push them to the 25-19 victory. Â

James Madison came ready to fight going on a 4-0 scoring run, highlighted by three kills from Wilmoth to put the Dukes a up 8-5. Davis added two more kills to contribute to the Dukes lead, 14-7.
Karis Beasley served up an ace to push JMU to 24-14, match point. The Dukes kept the fire going to push to the 25-19 victory, with a .429 clip (16-28).

Veldman tabbed three kills early to help JMU take a 10-5 lead before the first timeout. The Seahawk cut the lead to one, but Wilmoth and Davis fired off consecutive kills for JMU to keep UNCW out of reach (13-10). UNCW bounced back again to tie it up at 19 a piece. Wilmoth threw down back-to-back kills for JMU to push the Dukes to 21-19. Veldman recorded two more kills for the Dukes, to help capture the 25-21 victory.

JMU opened the set with an early 4-0 run, with two blocks, but UNCW fought back. The Dukes found themselves down 12-9, but shifted the momentum when Davis delivered a kill to cut the lead. Veldman contributed to the offense with two consecutive kills to put the Dukes at a 16-13 lead. JMU capitalized on UNCW errors to win the match 25-19.
