Harrisonburg, Va. – James Madison volleyball (4-1, 3-0 CAA) captured a 3-2 win over Colonial Athletic Association member College of Charleston (3-4, 2-3 CAA) with two Dukes recording double-doubles on Saturday afternoon in Sinclair Gymnasium.

Freshman
Miëtte Veldman recorded her third double-double of the season with 23 kills and 21 digs, hitting at a .230 clip. Sophomore
Caroline Dozier captured her second double-double of the season with 45 assists and 10 digs. Freshman
Elizabeth Helmich served up three aces for JMU, along with nine kills, and one block. Junior
Savannah Marshall helped the Dukes on the defensive end with 22 digs and two service aces.
Set 1
JMU and Charleston traded points until
Sophia Davis started a 3-0 run for the Dukes with a kill.
Savanah Cockrill recorded a solo block to push JMU to a 17-15 lead, forcing Charleston to take the first timeout. Helmich and Veldman each recorded kills to push another small run for JMU, 20-15.

Charleston fought back capitalizing on JMU attacking errors, causing the Dukes to take a timeout at 20-18. Helmich helped keep JMU's lead with a kill to increase the lead to 23-21.
Liv Crawley sent a kill down to get JMU to set point and Dozier attacked with an assist from
Zarah White to push JMU to the 25-22 win.

JMU took an early lead, 6-3, with four kills making up the first six points. Charleston fought back tying the set at 10-10, before Helmich sent the ball cross court to give the lead back to JMU. The freshman followed with a service ace making it 12-10, advantage JMU. Charleston capitalized on JMU attacking errors to gain a 12-13 lead over the Dukes.

The teams traded points, but Charleston took off on a 3-0 run to take the 18-22 lead, taking advantage of attacking errors by JMU. Davis helped the Dukes fight back sending the ball down for the point, 20-23.
Karis Beasley followed with a service ace, but it was not enough to comeback. Charleston won the set 21-21.

The teams traded points until
Chloe Wilmoth recorded a kill to give JMU a 5-4 lead. Veldman served an ace to add to JMU's lead. The Dukes capitalized on Charleston's errors to push a 4-0 run that included a block from Davis and Wilmoth to lead 12-8.

Later in the set Wilmoth hit two crucial kills to push JMU to a 22-21. The duo of Davis and Veldman recorded a block to push the Dukes one point away from the set. An attacking error from Charleston pushed JMU to a 25-22 win to lead the Cougars, 2-1.

Set 4
JMU went down early, trailing 7-2 at the first timeout. Veldman started the momentum for the Dukes with a kill , followed by a kill from classmate Helmich to cut the Cougars' lead, 4-8. Charleston went on another run to make the lead 5-12 over JMU.

JMU had a big 6-0 run late in the set started by two kills from
Wilmoth to tie the Cougars, 19-19. Wilmoth hit another big kill to make it 20-21. Charleston had a few attacking errors that helped keep the set close, but Veldman threw down a kill that made it her fourth of the set to keep JMU in the set. Charleston captured the win with a kill, 23-25, to tie it up 2-2 forcing the match into a fifth set.

JMU and Charleston battled back and forth before the Cougars took a 5-7 lead forcing JMU to take a timeout. Coming out the timeout, Veldman threw down a kill to get the momentum started for the Dukes. Wilmoth followed with another kill cutting the Cougars' lead, 9-10, followed by a service ace from Helmich to tie the set up. Davis came in big with a kill to push JMU to a 12-11 lead.

The Dukes capitalized on multiple errors by Charleston increasing their lead to 14-12. Veldman sent down a kill to finish the set and give JMU the 15-12 win over Charleston, winning the match 3-2.
