HARRISONBURG, Va. - After capturing the fifth Colonial Athletic Association Championship in program history on Tuesday, the James Madison women's golf team has signed incoming freshman
Kayleigh Reinke to a National Letter of Intent to join the Dukes for the 2021-22 season, as announced by Head Coach
Tommy Baker on Wednesday afternoon.
Â
Reinke comes to Harrisonburg from Legion Collegiate Academy in Rock Hill, S.C., where she was a standout student-athlete for four years, captaining the Lancers to back-to-back top-10 finishes at the state championships.
Â
"We are excited that Kayleigh will be joining our program, as she is a proven leader, a great student and an accomplished golfer," Baker said. "She has length off the tee, accuracy with her irons and a complete short game, all of which will help take our program to another level."
Â
Reinke has recently racked up top finishes in tournaments throughout the region, taking second place at both the 2021 Sea Pines Junior Heritage and the 2020 Stoney Point Girls Classic as part of the PKB Girls Tour. She performed well off the course as well, graduating seventh in her class and earning a spot on the honor roll all four years at Legion.
Â
The newly-crowned 2021 CAA Champions will return their entire roster for the 2021-22 season and added 2020 Virginia Amateur Champion
Tatum Walsh to next season's roster late last fall.
Â
The Dukes have
earned an automatic bid to one of four NCAA Regionals, hosted by LSU, Ohio State, Louisville and Stanford on May 10-12, and will find out their destination on the NCAA Selection Show, set to be broadcast on the Golf Channel at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 28.
