Field Hockey Releases 2021 Schedule

HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison field hockey Head Coach Christy Morgan has released the 2021 schedule highlighted by taking on six ranked opponents from the 2020 season.

"We are looking forward to having a full schedule loaded with competition from the best of the best, to bring the best out of JMU hockey," Morgan said. "Be sure to come take a look because we can and will play some great hockey!"

The 2021 slate is set to begin on Friday, August 27 on the road against Bucknell at 4 p.m. Following the season opener, the Dukes will return home for a quick two-game home stint against St. Francis (Aug. 29) and Old Dominion (Sept. 3) who finished ranked 20th last season.

JMU will move on to a trio of road games beginning with Richmond on September 5 at 1 p.m. The Dukes will travel South to North Carolina for the next two games facing App State and Wake Forest, who was ranked 10th last season on September 10 and 12 respectively.

On September 19, JMU welcomes No. 19 Duke to the JMU Field Hockey Complex for a 1 p.m. bout to commence a four-game homestand. The final non-conference competition before Colonial Athletic Association play is set for Sunday, September 26 against Davidson.

The reigning CAA Regular Season Champions will welcome Northeastern to kick off conference action on October 1 at 6 p.m. before closing out the home stay against Hofstra on October 3. The following weekend the Dukes will face Towson (Oct. 8) and the University of Maryland (Oct. 10) in Maryland before a rematch of the 2020 CAA Championship game against Delaware on October 15 in Newark.

JMU will step out of conference on the road one final time against Temple in Philadelphia on Sunday, October 17. The final two games at the JMU Field Hockey Complex will be against Drexel (Oct. 22) and Louisville (Oct. 24). Louisville finished the 2020 campaign ranked fourth in the nation and made an appearance in the 2020 Division I National Semifinal.

The CAA Tournament will be held from November 5-7 with the semifinal games on November 5 and the championship match on the seventh.

JMU is coming off a stellar season finishing the year 6-2 including a perfect 5-0 record in conference play to earn its fifth CAA Regular Season title. The Dukes made it all the way to the CAA championship game but came up short in a 3-2 overtime loss to Delaware.

Leading the charge was CAA Player of the Year Eveline Zwager who led the CAA in points per game, averaging 2.00 after putting up team bests of five goals and four assists for 14 points. Also returning is All-CAA First Team and VaSID All-State First Team selection Caroline Cahill. She scored four goals last season with an assist for nine points.
