HARRISONBURG, Va. - After capturing the fifth Colonial Athletic Association title in program history this past season, the James Madison women's golf program has added
Kendall Wisenbaker as an assistant coach prior to the 2021-22 season, as announced by head coach
Tommy Baker on Thursday afternoon.
Â
"I am excited to welcome Kendall to the JMU Women's Golf family," Baker said. "She brings a wealth of knowledge as a player and coach in the SEC and that will help us further our successes, both on and off the golf course. Kendall separated herself early in the search process with her strong passion for coaching and I am confident that desire will help our team win more championships in the future. She fits the culture and competitive environment here at JMU and will be a great asset for the future of JMU Women's Golf."
Â
Wisenbaker comes to JMU from Mississippi State, where she wrapped up a four-year playing career in 2019 before transitioning to coaching as both an operations fellow and assistant coach with the Bulldogs.
Â
After stepping into the assistant coaching role this past January, she helped lead a remarkable turnaround that culminated in MSU finishing fifth in stroke play at the SEC Championships before reaching the finals of the match play portion, finishing the season ranked no. 42 in the country.
Â
"I could not be more excited and honored to be the new assistant coach of the JMU women's golf program," Wisenbaker said. "I would like to thank Coach Baker for this amazing opportunity to step in and continue building on the success of this program - he has established a winning culture here in the last few years and I can't wait to be a part of it. I am looking forward to learning and growing in this position as we lead this group of talented young women and those to come. James Madison is an incredible place and I feel very blessed to be able to call this place home. Go Dukes!"
Â
Prior to serving as assistant coach, Wisenbaker was with the program as an operations fellow, helping the coaching staff with player analysis and evaluation, while also assisting with practice planning, travel, recruiting and other logistical operations with the program.
Â
Wisenbaker wrapped up her playing days at MSU in the spring of 2019, graduating with a B.B.A. in marketing before starting her coaching career.
Â
The reigning CAA Champions will return their entire roster for the 2021-22 season, having added both
Tatum Walsh and
Kayleigh Reinke to the roster as incoming freshmen for the fall season.
