HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison cross country has signed two incoming freshmen to National Letters of Intent as announced by head coach
Dave Rinker on Tuesday afternoon.

The Dukes will add
Lindsey Hester and
Sofia Terenziani to the 2021 roster to compete this coming fall.

"Our two signees bring different strengths to the program." Rinker said. "Lindsey is more of a cross country (5k/10k) runner that, with some development, will be able to push into our top seven for cross country. Sofia is a middle-distance runner from Italy who won her national championships for under 20. She has shown excellent racing tactics and brings a toughness that will be enhance our 800m and 1500m group in the spring."

Hester will make the trek to Harrisonburg from North Chesterfield where she ran cross country and track & field for James River High School. She was destined for a bright career from the beginning as she was earned the team's End of Season Newcomer Award her freshman year.

Serving as captain for the cross country team her sophomore and junior seasons, Hester was named to the All-Metro Team both years while earning First Team All-State honors her junior campaign. Academically, Hester has been a member of the National Honor Society, World Language Honor Society and has been on the Honor Roll.

Terenziani enters her freshman year all the way from Verona, Italy where she has won multiple championships in track. In her final season in 2021, Terenziani was named the 1500m indoor and outdoor national champion after taking the 1500m regional championship in the 1500m the season prior.

Hester and Terenziani join a roster that finished third at the CAA Championship last season, led by
Miranda Stanhope who was named the 2020 CAA Women's Cross Country Rookie of the Year after earning an All-CAA second-place finish at the meet. JMU will begin the 2021 season on Saturday, Sept. 4 at the Richmond Opener. The sole home race is on Sept. 17 at 5 p.m. at New Market Battlefield.
